Building Programs
Title I Pre-School
Currently, we have approximately 30 students in the Garrison pre-school Title I program. Title I is for 3 and 4-year-olds and is free of charge. However, students are screened and must meet certain criteria to attend.Mass screenings are held annually in March or April and then again in August. Screening for the next school year takes place every March or April. Watch the Chillicothe Newspaper, listen to KCHI, or visit this page on our web site to know the dates each spring. Screening can also be done any time of the year by calling us for an appointment.
Early Childhood Special Ed
This program is for identified 3, 4 and 5 year-old children and is free of charge. We now have 38 students in the program. Our early Intervention teachers are Margie Albertson, Terri Figg and Kim Griffin
.Even Start Family Literacy
Janice Shaffer is our Family Literacy Educators/Coordinator. Rita Sanders assists with English as a Second Language students. Karen Dixon assists with data collection and recruitment. Our goal is to assist and support individuals and families who are seeking to improve their literacy skills, receive a diploma or obtain a GED and work on adult basic skills. We offer child care, pre-school, and learning activities. Families may also utilize Head Start, home care providers, family members, and community providers to achieve the integration of family literacy through adult education, childhood education, and parenting education.Who qualifies for Even Start?
- Parents with children age seven or under
- Parents seeking either a high school diploma or a GED
- Parents wishing to brush up on basic skills
Services offered for those individuals meeting qualifications include parenting classes, daycare, educational support, and meals and transportation
Parents As Teachers
Parents as Teachers is a program for any parent in the district with a child from birth to age five. Developmental information, home visits, group meetings, and screenings are components of this program. Our Parents as Teachers program currently includes approximately 270 families (with children from birth to 3 years of age). Educators are Jill Gibson, Danielle Costner, and Jenny Jackson. An appointment for a PAT visit may be made by contacting the PAT office at 660-646-4840.
