Teacher Base Pay at Chillicothe School District Raised to $30,000 Teachers in the Chillicothe School District will be seeing an increase in their salaries, as approved by members of the Board of Education at Tuesday evening’s regular meeting at district headquarters. The starting base salary for teachers will be moved to a more competitive level, according to Superintendent Dale Wallace. The move will make the beginning base salary to over $30,000. The salary base rise is due to eliminating salary steps A1 and A2, placing seven teachers who once were on steps A1 and A2 and moving them on A3. All beginning teachers in the Chillicothe School District will be placed on step A3 when hired. Also decided at last night’s board meeting was to increase the salaries of administrators and non-certified personnel by 3 percent. The 2008-09 tentative budget projection was brought to the board members last night. The budget reflects the available levy, changes, updates and the projects. The budget was approved by the board and can be amended by the board in the months of July and August. The final budget must be completed in September. The professional Development Committee members gave their annual report. The report included the various staff development activities for the 2007-08 school year. Board members reviewed information about the current summer school session, which began May 27 and concludes June 27, and reviewed enrollment trends since 2005 using the Newton Learning Program. The summer school program has steadily increased since 2005, making the program 'beneficial' according to Wallace. "It is a win-win situation for both the students and the teachers," Wallace said. In other business, board members:
The board then moved into an executive meeting where they hired two teachers, Kirstin Blocker at the alternative high school for math, and Amy Cordray for high school special education. Two non-certified personnel were hired: Jessica Gillian as an aide at Dewey elementary school and Gary Jones as a bus driver. Also at the executive meeting, resignations were accepted from Susanne Nuttall as the literacy coordinator, Ralph Holland, bus driver, retired; and Tammy Prewitt as a Parent as Teachers educator. |
